Abbotsley lifted the Grace Norman Trophy for the very first time with a 2½-½ victory over Saffron Walden.

All three games in the final were evenly contested. In the top match the lead changed hands on a number of occasions before Abbotsley’s Vivien Saunders and Marie Bayes levelled the score on the 15th and then won the next two holes to run out winners by 2 & 1 against Linda Kelsey and Janice Abrahams (Saffron Walden).
Victory was secured for Abbotsley as Vivien Ward and Kim Brantigan held their nerve as they edged ahead of Saffron Walden’s La Vern Frost and Kiyoko McClellan by 2 & 1.
In the final match Saffron Walden’s Elaine Purcell and Angela Reed went four up, but Abbotsley’s Helen Davidson and Sue Hurren fought back to level the score when the match was conceded as halved, with Abbotsley having already secured victory, the final score being 2½-½.
