Jean Wilkinson - Bourn finally take the Title

After numerous semi-final and final appearances Bourn finally put previous disappointments behind them as they lifted the Cambs and Hunts Ladies County Golf Association Jean Wilkinson Trophy for the first time. In a repeat of last year's they completed a comfortable
6-1 win over holders Abbotsley at Royston Golf Club.
On a clear sunny day a stiff breeze added to the challenge facing the four semi-finalists. In the first semi-final between Abbotsley and Saffron Walden, Abbotsley took the initiative by winning the top three matches. Saffron Walden won the fourth match before Abbotsley sealed victory by winning the fifth match. Abbotsley winning the match 5½-1½. In the second semi-final Bourn played Ely City. Once again Bourn laid the foundation for victory by winning the top two matches. Ely secured their only win in the third match. The fourth match was halved before Bourn took the next two games for a final result of 5½-1½.
In the final Bourn seemed to believe that it was their turn as they took an early lead when Marilize Synman-Harvey defeated Anne Chandler 6 & 4. They increased their lead when Cindy McIntyre beat Mary Thompson 5 & 3. The third match was a hard fought game with Abbotsley's Sue Hurren taking an early lead and Bourn's Angela Robinson battling back to score an important half. Diane Amps added to Bourn's total with a 2 & 1 victory over Maureen Alderman. It was Bourn's Julie Gray who clinched the match with a 3 & 2 victory over Ali Jarrett. With a winning margin in the bag the final two matches were called in with Bourn's Lindy Clemmow 1 up on Ali Thornhill and Elaine Randall and Honor Porter all square.
