Sarah Smith takes 16th place in the English Girls’ Golf Championship

Links, Newmarket and County player, Sarah Smith had a marvellous championship with rounds of 81, 75, 74 and 80 which placed her 16th out of the 123 players in the field.
The English Girls' Championship took place at Seacroft Golf Club in Lincolnshire from 27-29 July. Played as a 72-hole strokeplay event for the first time this year, the full field of 123 players were cut to the leading 40 players and ties after the first two rounds.
Sarah Smith commented: "The tough 17th & 18th holes were hard to finish in the dry conditions and head wind. Playing most of Seacroft from the men's tees made the course more challenging but pleasing when playing good golf. With a good handicap cut to 3, I am really happy with how I played over the 3 days."
Seacroft is a traditional Links following an 'out and back' layout along the natural dunes. It's a challenging course with blind tee shots and many approach shots to well guarded greens. The coastal winds and deep pot bunkers add to the challenge.
The field included junior internationals and players with handicaps as low as plus-two. Every county in the country was represented in the championship.
Other players from Cambs & Hunts included Laura Tuttle, Claire Tuttle and Amy Rae.
