Scratch Knockout Final 2009

The Cambs and Hunts Scratch Foursomes Knockout final play at Menzies Golf Club produced a thrilling finale to the event. The final pitched the experienced Links pairing of Sarah Greenall and Marcella Tuttle against the youthful pairing of Sarah Smith (Links) and Chelsey Herbert (Gogs).
In the opening holes Sarah and Marcella settled quickly and were three up after four holes, a lead they maintained until the eleventh hole when Sarah and Chelsey reduced the arrears with a birdie.
The youngsters pulled another hole back with a solid par on the long 14th hole and they finally squared the match with a birdie on the 16th hole. With the 17th and 18th holes halved the match went into extra holes.
The high standard of golf continued with the first extra hole halved with birdies and the second holes halved with pars. On the third extra hole, with the light fading Chelsey and Sarah found the green with their approach shot. With the pressure now on Sarah and Marcella came up shot of the green and a short chip and missed putt gave the youngsters the comfort of two putts to take the title. Chelsey took no chances and rolled the first putt dead and the hole was conceded to give Sarah and Chelsey their first Scratch Knockout title.
